High turnover in software teams creates hidden risks. When key people leave, critical knowledge walks out with them. Existing bus factor tools were too rigid, with no way to adjust timelines or parameters for different projects.
Built DEV-EYE, a tool that computes and visualises the bus factor from git commit history. It offers configurable ownership thresholds and adjustable analysis timeframes so teams can tailor it to their own setup.
DEV-EYE analyses git history to surface where knowledge is concentrated and who the bottlenecks are. It supports historical comparison so teams can track how risk changes over time, not just see a snapshot. Flexible configuration means it works for a 5-person startup and a 200-person enterprise the same way. The research behind it focused on proactive risk management and encouraging knowledge sharing before it's too late. Presented at APSEC 2025, Chongqing, China.
